Operation Respond Institute begins deployment of OREIS 6.0

The Operation Respond Institute is pleased to announce the release of the OREIS 6.0 software for emergency responders. This powerful and secure information tool is packed with new features and is currently being deployed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

OREIS 6.0 has many new features for firefighters, police officers and other emergency response professionals. OREIS now contains data about weapons of mass destruction and features electronic databases about chemical and biological agents for first responders.

ORI has developed several railcar and locomotive schematics for OREIS 6.0 that provide police officers with detailed information about railroad equipment for counter-terrorism, rescue and response purposes. ORI and Amtrak worked closely with police professionals to extract and highlight information of importance to high-risk entry (SWAT), hostage and explosive disposal teams. This feature will be expanded in future versions.

OREIS is a software program that provides first responders with time and lifesaving real-time information about hazardous materials and passenger railroad incidents. OREIS transmits real-time information about the hazardous materials contents of freight railcars and motor carriers and schematics for passenger railcars and locomotives. The software is deployed free-of-charge to certain emergency response agencies under a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the support of the participating carriers.

In response to the growing security concerns regarding railroads, OREIS 6.0 operates in a strict and controlled environment, ensuring that sensitive information is available only to legitimate emergency responders for training and incident response purposes. This new version is network-able and comes equipped with the SmartPass security technology developed by V-ONE Corporation. SmartPass is widely used by emergency response and law enforcement systems and allows OREIS to communicate with users in a fully encrypted, one-on-one environment. Integration with SmartPass will also assist as OREIS moves to a higher-level architecture.

Unlike previous releases of the software, OREIS 6.0 is being released only in one, fully secure version. Users of previous limited-access versions of OREIS will need to meet ORI's security protocols to receive the new version. For further information, please visit www.oreis.org.

ORI is working with the Emergency Services Information Network Corporation (ESINC) , an ORI licensee, to develop and implement a two-way messaging and alerting system for OREIS users. When you register OREIS you will automatically become a component of this network.

Operation Respond is currently in the process of deploying this software to the 4,500 OREIS users located throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Current users will receive an email notification when their software has been mailed. To order OREIS, visit www.oreis.org. For more information, contact adamm@oreis.org.
