OREISTM 5.0 is primed to be the most powerful version of the emergency response software program released to date. With many new features and a completely redesigned format, OREISTM is sure to make some serious waves in the emergency response community.
Longtime OREISTM users will immediately notice the redesigned user interface and screen design. Operation Respond has updated the look and operation of the system to make OREISTM more usable and modern. OREISTM 5.0 will also be a full-screen application, in response to multiple user requests.
OREISTM programmers have completely retooled the backend of the software in the Visual Basic programming language. This is particularly useful for response agencies that utilize the Windows 2000 operating system or operate over a network connection. OREISTM 5.0 will now function optimally under both of these conditions. In addition, the program will now support both modem and cable/T-line connections to download hazmat content information.
This will also improve the management capabilities of OREIS and ultimately result in a system more secure for responders and carriers. Instead of being connected directly to carrier databases, OREISTM users will connect to the Operation Respond server to query hazmat content for railcars and trucks. This will allow Operation Respond to monitor, record and control the traffic flowing through the system.
The updated version will also feature the inclusion of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)'s Pocket Guide to Target Organs. This informative database identifies specific human organs affected by different chemicals. This information is especially useful to responders involved in a hazmat operation.
A new version of the OREISTM Web will also be unveiled soon. This will be a more complete version of the Web-based application, located at www.oreis.org. ORI is working with individual carriers to examine the possibility of establishing the hazmat content links on the Web version. All OREISTM CD-ROM users can access the OREIS™ Web.
OREISTM 5.0 will be released to the emergency response community in December of 2002. All current OREISTM users will automatically receive a copy of this exciting new software package. Check www.oreis.org for further updates, as they develop.
